SALA Exhibition
Daydreams, Doodles ...& Dolly
Turning ‘one percent inspiration’ into one hundred percent exhibition. A collection of works in various stages of completion that embrace the moment an idea transpires.
Artist Statement
Some say that I am her in the images she creates with my likeness. I can’t say I can shed any real insight on that subject. The worlds in which she places me on these digital canvases are the only real clues. I feel I am both the goddess and the puppet. Strung and awaiting the rise of the curtain backstage for another Act and an even greater Goddess’s amusement.
One day without warning I was plucked from the cardboard fortress and placed in the light. The sharp edges of the discarded Lego had left its mark after thirty years of pressing into my pale pink vinyl skin. The makeup applied well before my incarceration was permanently fused. When I was sat upright I could see her. Her hair had dulled but it was unmistakably her. Same defiance, same confusion, same compulsion to dismember and contort me.
Her works are created from her amassed and ever growing collection of photographs. It’s so clichéd, “but she was always taking photos.” I used to be quite jealous of the toy with the black body and single large glass eye. But now we are allies and together we help these characters in her mind come to life. Gods, Goddesses, Gurus, she is still trying to understand her place amongst the populist doctrines.
Dolly (more recently known as the ‘Amazing Dolly’)
